Requirements for Bachelor's Program

A. Academic

1. At least 12 years of education (HSC equivalent).

 

B. Language Proficiency

1. Most schools require minimum overall band score of 6.0 in IELTS or Overall band score of 5.0 in IELTS plus max. 30 weeks ELICOS.

 

C. Course Length

1. Bachelor Degree: Approx. 3 years of full time study

2. Bachelor Degree (Honours): Approx. 4 years of full time study

 

Requirements for Master's Program

A. Academic

1. At least 15 years of education.

 

B. Language Proficiency

A. Tuition Fees in $AUS

1. University education, Foundation Studies

Cost: $9,000 to $14,000 per year. (such as university entrance, preparatory and bridging courses)

2. Bachelor's programs

a. Bachelor Degree: $10,000 to $13,500 per year

(such as courses in arts, business, economics and

law)

b. Laboratory-based Bachelor Degree: $11,000 to $16,500 a year (such as science and engineering courses)

3. Post graduate programs

a. Graduate Certificates/Graduate Diplomas:

b. Masters/Doctoral Degree: $11,000 to $18,500 per

B. Living & Other Expenses in $AUS

1. A student spends about $335 per week including

food, clothing, transport, travel, telephone etc.

 

C. Accommodation Expense in $AUS

1. Homestay or Farmstay: $110 to $270 per week

2. Hostels & guest houses: $80 to $135 per week

3. Share accommodation: $50 to $160 per week

4. Rental accommodation: $70 to $350 per person per week

5. Boarding schools: $155 to $210 per week

6. University accommodation: $190 to $280 per week

 

D. Health Insurance in $AUS

1. International students must have adequate arrangements for health insurance.

2. Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC) insurance costs generally from $75 for three months.

3. Students in Australia are responsible for their own accident and property insurance.

4. It is a good idea to take out travel insurance before leaving Bangladesh.

 

Other Information

A. Working in Australia

1. Students can apply for permission to work once they start their course on a student visa

2. You must bring evidence from the education provider that the student has started this course.

3. With permission you can work up to 20 hours per week during course time. During vacation, you are allowed to work full time.

4. On-campus jobs do not provide enough funds to cover your tuition or living expenses.

5. Masters and doctorate students and family members can apply for permission to work full time.

6. Work permit can be obtained electronically or on paper using form 157P.

 

B. Jobs in Australia

1. The job areas are: Bartending/waiting tables, Retailing, Construction, Hospitality & Hairdressing, Health Care Services, Accounting, Engineering Jobs, Health & Medical, Computing, Trades, Fruit Picking, Architecture, Hospitality & Food Service Jobs, Temporary Administration & Secretarial Jobs etc.

2. Average wages (per hour-casual time):

a. Bartending/waiting tables: $15 - $25 per hour

b. Retail sales assistant: $15 - $25 per hour

c. Child care: $18 - $20 per hour

 

3. Average wages (per week-full time):

a. Chef: $700 - $800 per week

b. Check out operators and cashiers: $500 - $700 per week

c. Building/laboring: $650 - $850 per week

d. Engineering: $800 - $1500 per week

e. Hairdressing: $530 - $650 per week

f. Secretarial/administration: $600 - $700 per week

 

C. How to Apply to The University

1. Check with the departments to see if there is a closing date for your application.

2. You should write directly to the Institution's Admission Office for detailed application information and forms.

3. You can also download application form from university website.

4. Some universities have an on-line application facility.

5. Admission Office will inform you about the documentation, translation, and visa requirements.

5. You should start at least one year in advance to compile the necessary information and documentation.

6. The decision of the institution is usually announced within approximately six to eight months of the application deadline.

 

D. Supporting Documents

1. Completed Application Form

2. English version of your all educational documents including mark sheet.

3. School/College leaving certificate.

4. Application fee payment document.

5. English language (IELTS) tests result.

6. Photocopy of your passport.

 

E. Credit Transfer Facility

1. Students may apply for credit transfer program at undergraduate or postgraduate level in Australia.

2. The maximum amount of credit that may be granted normally is not greater than 50% of the course.

3. Most of the Australian universities consider minimum "B" grade for acceptance.

4. You have to submit the following documents

to your target university:

a. Your application form for the Undergraduate or Postgraduate coursework program

b. Official copies of your academic transcript

c. Also include an official letter from head of the school/department of your university, from where you have already completed the courses.

d. Detailed course outlines (Official Copy) including subject descriptions, methods of teaching and assessment, reading lists, number of hours of teaching etc.

e. The academic level you are studying (e.g. First Year, Second Year etc.)

f. How many credits you have completed

g. An explanation of the grading system used at your institution.

h. Information on the total units of study requirement ( i.e. how many credits are required) for the completion of the degree.

 

F. Scholarships

3. The Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training website can link you to the relevant university for more information about particular scholarship.

4. The Association of Commonwealth Universities website provides scholarship guide for Commonwealth postgraduate students offered by Governments, Rotary International, World Bank, World Health Organization, Asian Development Bank, United Nations, Rockefeller Foundation etc.
