Requirements for Bachelor's Program

A. Academic

1. At least 12 years of education (HSC equivalent).

B. Language Proficiency

1. Most schools require TOEFL CBT score 173 to 250 or TOEFL iBT score 61 to 100

C. Other Test

1. It depends on universities. SAT I is required for almost all Universities

2. SAT II is required for few Universities.

D. Course Length

1. Associate Degree: Approx. 2 years of full time study.

2. Bachelor's Degree: Approx. 4 years of full time study.

A. Academic

1. At least 16 years of education.

B. Language Proficiency

1. Most schools require TOEFL CBT score 173 to 250 or TOEFL iBT score 61 to 100.

C. Other Test

1. It depends on universities. Sometimes it requires  GRE General, GRE Subject Tests, GMAT etc.

D. Course Length

1. Master's Degree: Approx. 2 years of full time study (with the exception of the LLM 1 year)

2. PhD Degree program: Approx. 3 to 6 years

Expenses

A. Tuition Fees in $US

1. It depends on universities. At most public universities it is $11,000 to $20,000 per year. In private colleges and universities it is  about $30,000 per year.

2. You must not expect financial aid for undergraduate studies mostly.

3. At graduate level (masters, doctorate) there are more opportunities for financial aid from both public and private universities.

B. Living & Other Expense in $US

1. Food, cloth, transport, travel, telephone & incidental cost approximately $4000 to $10000 per year.

C. Medical Insurance

1. The cost of medical insurance between $500 to $1,000 per year for one person including doctor’s visits, medication, hospitalization, and surgery.

Other Information

A. Accommodation

You can choose Homestay, Hostels & guest houses, Share accommodation, Rental accommodation, Boarding schools, University accommodation etc.

B. Working in USA

1. You can not do a job while you are studying.

2. Your visa do not allow you to work unless you are employed in an on-campus job or approved by the university.

3. On-campus jobs do not provide enough funds to cover your tuition or living expenses.

C. Type of Jobs for the Students

1. Students at the school can usually find jobs like cleaning the grounds and buildings, guarding buildings at night, or working in the cafeteria, library, or offices.

2. Sometimes students can baby-sit, perform house-cleaning or yard-work chores arranged through the school, camp counselor, Bartending/waiting tables, Computing, Trades, Fruit Picking, Poultry processing, Sewing machine operator, Farm laborer, Laundry worker

3. Average wages: Between $6 to $25 per hour

D. How to Apply to The University

1. Check with the departments to see if there is a closing date for your application.

2. You should write directly to the Institution's Admission Office for detailed application information and forms.

3. You can also download application form from university website.

4. Some universities have an on-line application facility.

5. Admission Office will inform you about the documentation, translation, and visa requirements.

5. You should start at least one year in advance to compile the necessary information and documentation.

6. The decision of the institution is usually announced within approximately six to eight months of the application deadline.

E. Supporting Documents

1. Completed Application Form

2. Money order/Application fee Documents

3. Official English version of all educational documents including marks sheets.

4. Transcripts should only be certified by the Ministry of Education or the issuing institution where you studied.

5. School/College leaving certificate.

6. One or more letters of recommendation

7. TOFEL, IELTS test results

8. Score report of SAT, GRE, GMAT (based on university requirements) etc

9. Letter of financial responsibility directly from your sponsor

10. Photocopy of your passport

F. Credit Transfer Facility

1. Students may apply for credit transfer program at undergraduate or postgraduate level in America.

2. The maximum amount of credit that may be granted normally is not greater than 50% of the course.

3. Most of the American universities consider minimum "B" grade for acceptance.

4. You have to submit the following documents

to your target university:

a. Your application form for the Undergraduate or Postgraduate coursework program

b. Official copies of your academic transcript

c. Also include an official letter from head of the school/department of your university, from where you have already completed the courses.

d. Detailed course outlines (Official Copy) including subject descriptions, methods of teaching and assessment, reading lists, number of hours of teaching etc.

e. The academic level you are studying (e.g. First Year, Second Year etc.)

f. How many credits you have completed

g. An explanation of the grading system used at your institution.

h. Information on the total units of study requirement ( i.e. how many credits are required) for the completion of the degree.

4. The Association of Commonwealth Universities website provides a scholarships guide for Commonwealth postgraduate students offered by Governments, Rotary International, World Bank, World Health Organization, Asian Development Bank, United Nations, Rockefeller Foundation and other organizations.
