1. What is GRE (Graduate Record Examination) General Test?

The GRE® General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study.

 

2. Who Should Take It & Why?

Prospective graduate applicants take the GRE General Test. GRE test scores are used by admissions or fellowship panels to supplement undergraduate records and other qualifications for graduate study mainly in USA and Canada.

 

3. Who Accepts It?

Any accredited graduate or professional school, or any department or division within a school, may require or recommend that its applicants take the GRE General Test, a Subject Test, or both.

 

4. Who administer it?

The ETS authority controls GRE General test.

7. How to Register GRE Computer Based General Test?

 

A. Smart & Easier System

1. You have to go to the following address.

2. Fill up the International Test Scheduling Form available at VarsityAdmission.COM

3. Pay the Service Charge along with ETS Fee of $US170. More information about charge

4. Finally, you will get your exam confirmation at your email address within three days.

1. Download International Test Scheduling Form or get it from American Center at Banani.

2. Print the form and fill up it.

3. Make a bank draft in favor of ETS of $US170 from any bank of your choice.

4. Attach the bank draft with the GRE General Test scheduling form.

5. Send it to Regional Registration Center (RRC), Malaysia.

6. If you wish to send it by normal post, use the following address.

Please be informed that there is a risk in this conventional method. If your bank draft is missing you will not be able to sit for the test. The Application form must reach the RRC at least three weeks before the earliest test date you asked for.

1. Online Registration: You have to visit GRE Computer Based General Test Online Registration page and follow the instruction.

8. How to Send Additional Score Reports?

 

Smart & Easier System:

1. You have to go to the following address.

2. Fill up the GRE General Test Additional Score Reports Form available at VarsityAdmission.COM

3. Pay the Service Charge along with ETS Fee of $US15 for each university. More information about charge.

4. Finally, the ETS will post your requested additional score reports within four days or two weeks depending on the method you chose.

 

If you have International Credit Card, you can fax your ASR request to: 1-610-290-8975.

Also you can request by phone to 1-609-771-7290

 

Conventional System:

1. Download GRE General Test Additional Score Report Form from the Internet or get it from American Center at Banani.

2. Print the form and fill up it.

3. Make a bank draft in favor of ETS of $US15 per university from any bank of your choice.

4. Attach the bank draft with the GRE additional score reports Form.

5. Send it to the following address by post mail.

6. Finally the ETS will post your requested ASR within two weeks

9. How long is the Score Valid?

1. GRE General Test score is valid for five years.

A. Analytical Writing

B. Verbal Section

C. Quantitative Section

 

A. Analytical Writing Detail

The skills measured include the test taker's ability to:

1. Articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively

2. Examine claims and accompanying evidence

3. Support ideas with relevant reasons and examples

4. Sustain a well-focused, coherent discussion

5. Control the elements of standard written English.

 

This section consists of two tasks

 

Task One: Analytical Writing

Number of Question: One Issue Task

Time: 45 minutes

 

The "Issue" task: It states an opinion on an issue of general interest and asks you to address the issue from any perspective (for or against) you wish, as long as you provide relevant reasons and examples to explain and support your views.

 

Task Two: Analytical Writing

Number of Question: One Argument Task

Time: 30 minutes

 

The "Argument" task: It requires you to critique an argument by discussing how well-reasoned you find it. You are asked to consider the logical soundness of the argument rather than to agree or disagree with the position it presents.

 

Test Score Scale: An analytical writing score reported on a 0-6 score scale, in half-point increments.

 

Note: The “Issue and Argument” are complementary in that the “issue” requires you to construct a personal argument about an issue, and the “Argument” requires you to critique someone else's argument by assessing its claims.

 

B. Verbal Section Detail

The skills measured include the test taker's ability to:

1. Analyze and evaluate written material and synthesize information obtained from it.

2. Analyze relationships among component parts of sentences.

3. Recognize relationships between words and concepts.

4. The verbal measure consists of four question types: analogies, antonyms, sentence completions, and reading comprehension sets.

5. Number of Question: 30

6. Time: 30 minutes

7. Score Scale: A verbal reasoning score reported on a 200-800 score scale, in 10-point increments.

C. Quantitative Section Detail

The skills measured include the test taker's ability to:

1. Understand basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.

2. Reason quantitatively.

3. Solve problems in a quantitative setting.

5. Number of Question: 28

6. Time: 45 minutes

7. Score Scale: A quantitative reasoning score reported on a 200-800 score scale, in 10-point increments.

11. What is the Standard Score for GRE General Test?

There is no standard score for GRE Computer Based General Test. But, the overall accepted score for Quantitative Section is 600, for Verbal Section 500, for Analytical Writing Section 4.5.

 

12. Cancel or Change Your Test Appointment

A. Rescheduling Policy

1. You must reschedule your test no later than 3 full days before your appointment (not including the day of your test or the day of your request) or your test fee will be forfeited.

2. For example: Suppose, your test date is 23rd April, you have to reschedule your test on or before 19th April.

3. Payment must be received prior to rescheduling. The reschedule fee is $US50. More information about charge

4.The fee for changing your test center is $US50.

 

B. Cancellation Policy

1. You must cancel your test no later than 3 full days before your appointment (not including the day of your test or the day of your request) or your test fee will be forfeited.

2. For example: Suppose, your test date is 23rd April, you have to cancel your test on or before 19th April.

3. If you cancel your test 3 full days prior to your test date, you will get a partial refund of $US60.

 

13. What to Bring to the Test Center

1. A valid original passport.

2. Your registration number. You will get this when you register.

3. Note: If you arrive at the test center without the required documents mentioned above, the test center administrator will not admit you to the test and your test fee will be forfeited.
