A. The Writing Section:

 

Time: 60 min.

Content: Grammar, usage, and word choice

Item Types: Student-written essay (25 min.), Multiple choice questions (35 min.)

Score: 200-800

 

-The writing section includes both multiple-choice questions and a direct writing measure in the form of an essay.

1. The multiple-choice writing questions measure your ability to:

a. Improve sentences and paragraphs.

b. Identify errors (such as diction, grammar, sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, proper word usage, and wordiness)

Short Essay:

1. The short essay measures your ability to:

a. Organize and express ideas clearly.

b. Develop and support the main idea.

2. You'll be asked to develop a point of a view on an issue, using reasoning and evidence — based on your own experiences, readings, or observations — to support your ideas.

B. Critical Reading Section:

 

Time: 70 min. (two 25-min. sections & one 20-min. section)

Content: Critical reading and sentence-level reading

Item Types: Reading comprehension, sentence completions, and paragraph-length critical reading

Score: 200-800

 

1. The critical reading section, formerly known as the verbal section, includes short reading passages along with the existing long reading passages.

2. Analogies have been eliminated, but sentence-completion questions and passage-based reading questions remain.

C. Mathematics Section:

 

Time: 70 min. (two 25-min. sections and one 20-min. section)

Content: Number and operations; algebra and functions; geometry; statistics, probability, and data analysis

Item Types: Five-choice multiple-choice questions and student-produced responses

Score: 200-800

 

1. The SAT-I includes mathematics topics from up through a third-year college preparatory course, such as exponential growth, absolute value, and functional notation.

2. It also places emphasis on such topics as linear functions, manipulations with exponents, and properties of tangent lines.

3.  Important skills such as estimation and number sense are measured through the multiple-choice and student response (grid-in) questions (formerly measured in the quantitative comparison format).

 

4. You can use a calculator like four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator.

 

The Math Section has two types of questions:

12. Test, Test Date, or Test Center Changes

1. If a student is registered for a test and wants to change the test, test center, or test date, the student should call SAT customer service no later than the Wednesday that is two and a half weeks before the test date.

2. The Fee is $US21.

3. International Credit card required.

 

13. Refunds Policy

1. Test and registration fees (including late fees and telephone re-registration fees) cannot be refunded, even if you cancel your test scores or are absent on test day.

2. Most SAT-related fees are transferable but not refundable. The only refundable fees are for:

 

a. Services you ordered on your Registration Form for a test date that you later missed.
b. Additional score reports that you ordered on your Registration Form for a test date that you later missed.

 

3. If you ordered QAS (Questions and Answer Service) and your order was not fulfilled, contact www.CollegeBoard.com to find out if you are entitled to a refund.

4. Refunds are processed beginning six weeks after the test date.
